VILLAIN - Amsterdam (Noord-Holland, NL) 1983 - 1987

BIOGRAPHY:

VILLAIN were a four piece hard rock band formed in Amsterdam in 1983. They recorded a demo with five songs on it, called "Got Your ears On". Most striking is the very technical approach of these guys, which turn these songs into very lengthy ones. Guitarist John Staal is an excellent guitarplayer and very capable of wrting good songs. In the ballad "You", it's quite obvious, that the band has been very much inspired by Y&T, which is not a shame. Although the voice of singer Arnold van Elden should sound a little bit tighter and less monotonous at times, he's definitely not a bad singer. VILLAIN is often to be seen on stage as support for HIGHWAY CHILE. In 1985, the band appeared with the song "White Snow" on the split single "Metal Power V", alongside SCARLET ANGEL, PROUD EXISTENCE and AXEL. In 1987, VILLAIN released the single "I Still Love You baby" b/w "City Lights" with Fred Pieters on lead vocals. Obviously, they move into a more commercial direction, but success wasn't bound to happen. VILLAIN split up very soon afterwards.
